Getting Around, Sorrento Travel and Sorrento Transport

A beautiful and very scenic city, many people choose to travel to Sorrento from nearby Naples and other coastal locations, using one of the many ferries and hydrofoils, which transport passengers to and from the Marina Piccola. Within the city itself, public transport features many regular SITA buses, while other tourists often choose to simply walk from their hotel to the beaches on foot.
Whilst bus transport is a very popular way to explore Campania, with regular buses travelling along the Amalfi coast, Sorrento is also home to an important 'Circumvesuviana' train station, with excellent links to Naples. Many people who choose to travel to Pompeii as a day trip find that trains are a very quick way to reach these ancient city remains.

Located around 56 km / 35 miles to the north of Sorrento, Naples Airport (NAP) is the closest international air facility to the city and serves worldwide destinations, such as Athens, Budapest, Dublin, Geneva, Hamburg, London, Manchester, Moscow, New York and Paris. There are a number of different way to travel into Sorrento from Naples Airport, namely by taxi, bus or using rail transport. The Central Train Station in Naples is located on the Piazza Garibaldi and can be reached by bus in a matter of minutes.

Hiring a car at Naples International Airport is always a popular transport option and many tourists use this method to travel into Sorrento, via the A3 highway. Sorrento Travel and Transport: Travel by Bus and Coach - Sorrento, Italy, IT
Bus transport in this part of Italy is operated by SITA and these buses serve the entire Amalfi Coast and also Sant'Agata. All buses depart from outside of the Circumvesuviana train station, where you can purchase tickets from the station bar. You are also able to purchase bus tickets from any shop or tobacconist displaying the blue SITA sign outside. Around 12 buses each day travel between Sorrento and Amalfi, passing Positano as part of the route. SITA buses to Ravello are also frequent and this relatively short journey is very inexpensive. Around the city of Sorrento itself, bus Line C travels from the Piazza Tasso, terminating at the Marina Piccola.

Various boat trips, hydrofoils and ferries transport passengers to and from locations such as Naples and the islands of Ischia and Capri, departing from the port at Marina Piccola. Those travelling by boat can be assured a scenic and rather speedy journey, with some rather impressive coastal views along the way.
